History of Lahore's historic Museum:
It was built in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style, a synthesis of Mughal and British Colonial architecture, and it opened its doors to the public in 1894. Around 60,000 artefacts with historical, cultural, and artistic significance are housed in the Lahore Museum's permanent collection.

From the ancient Indo-Greek and Gandhara kingdoms, the museum has a sizable collection of Buddhist artwork. The British Empire in India, the Sikh Empire, and the Mughal Empire all had collections there as well.
In the opening scene of his book Kim, Rudyard Kipling—whose father, John Lockwood Kipling, was one of the museum's first curators—set the scenario at the Lahore Museum and the Zamzama Gun, which is situated just in front of the building.
